On this day in live music history (1-28-83): I have never heard a better version (and I’ve heard a lot of them, by both B.B. and others) of “The Thrill is Gone” than this one. King doesn’t play his first note until 2-3 minutes into the song and he attacks the solo like a cat: calculated, methodically, and quiet as a ninja before exploding (along with the rest of the band) into a funk fest.
