by The Beatles,
@ Apple Studios (rooftop) in London, England

On this day in live music history (1-30-69): The truly historic final live performance by The Beatles (joined here by Billy Preston) atop the Apple Studios building might be one of my top four or five wish-I-was-there moments in music history.  To have been a fly on the wall… wait… no walls on a rooftop… a fly on Harrison’s amp that day 43 years ago today would have been pretty magical.  Alan Parsons, who has had anything but a dull life, had this to say about witnessing this moment:

That was one of the greatest and most exciting days of my life. To see The Beatles playing together and getting an instant feedback from the people around them, five cameras on the roof, cameras across the road, in the road, it was just unbelievable.

This is one of five versions of “Get Back” they did that day, and was recorded by George Martin who was actually in the studio in the building while the fellas from Liverpool played on the building.
